Lábjegyzetek Márki-Zay CNN-interjújához (scroll down for English)

Nagy dolog nagy csatornán szerepelni, Márki-Zay ki is használja a médiahátszelet (figyelemre méltó, hogy a "független" média mennyire lelkesedik egyik irányba, és mennyire utálkozik a másikba). Kellemes angolsággal (írjuk ezt jóvá neki) előadott üzenetei annál magabiztosabbak, minél lazább kapcsolatban sem állnak a tényekkel. Íme a kivonatos korrigendum.
Erre nincs jobb szavunk a sajtószabadságnál.
MZP: Semmi keresztényi nincs a korrupcióban.
Továbbá, a nemzet épp felfelé épül abból a közpénzből, amelynek maguk felé hajszálcsövesítéséből bal-libék lefelé építenék, az elmaradt csurranás-csöppenés mellett leginkább ettől fújnak tüzet.

Footnotes on Márki-Zay's CNN interview

It's a great thing to be interviewed by a great channel and Márki-Zay takes advantage of the media tailwind (isn't it remarkable how enthusiastic an "independent" media outlet is in one direction and how spiteful it is in the other). MZP's messages delivered in pleasant English (he deserves credit for that) are increasingly self-assured as they become increasingly decoupled from the facts. Below is a brief corrigendum.
MZP: We need to treat people humanely, wherever they are coming from.
- The ongoing discussion is about migrants as opposed to refugees, and not about treatment, but admission.
MZP: Prior to 2010, Orbán was pro-Europe and anti-Putin, but turned around subsequently.
- Orbán has always been for Europe, and is building mutually beneficial relations with Russia, as are France and Germany, among other countries.
MZP: There is no media freedom.
- All kinds of views can be published, and are published, freely in Hungarian media. Mind you, this is what media freedom means.
MZP: There is nothing christian about corruption.
- If by corruption, we mean public funds/assets stolen by a network of people fishing in muddy waters, then the left is the inventor and ultimate champion of this. What is currently going on is nation-building (which is why the allegations don't cut much ice with conservatives, in case you haven't noticed). Corruption is not the right word for that. Moreover, MZP intends to combat "corruption" by teaming up with the man most Hungarians think of as its Grand Daddy? Who is he kidding?
There is such a thing as fighting fire with fire (check the Indian stories of our teenage years), but that increases the damage, so if you want to minimise damage, fire vs fire is a bad idea. Besides, the contested public funds are currently building a nation, whereas the same funds channelled toward left-liberal pockets would dismantle it, that and lost income are the ultimate source of fire and brimstone.
Meanwhile, MZP also claims that former PM Gyurcsany's leaked admission of cheating and lying to win the 2006 elections amounted to openly telling the truth, his subsequent use of unidentified riot police to turn a peaceful demonstration into a bloodbath represented democratic rule of law, and that he specifically fought(sic!) corruption while in office, as opposed to taking it to unparalleled heights. These utterances make MZP a great story-teller bringing tall tales to gullible voters from a parallel universe. We'll soon find out how those voters respond.
